Newborn Photography Session At Home Frenchtown New Jersey

This at-home newborn photography session took place back in May. It was actually my first newborn session post-quarantine. Although we’d originally planned to do these baby pictures at the studio, we ended up doing it at their home instead. Just wanted to be super duper careful—especially where a little one is involved!

Even though we did this session at-home, we still went for a studio feel since that’s what we’d originally been aiming for. I brought some of my swaddles and props so we could get some of those classic newborn photo looks. And doing family pictures in front of the curtains gave us a studio-like backdrop to work with.

In addition to changing the location, COVID also changed the timing of this newborn photography session. Normally I photograph newborns within the first couple weeks of life. But this little guy was five weeks old! Not gonna lie, that made it a little tough. Babies are just much more wakeful and squirmy beyond that two-week mark, so it’s not always easy to get the shots you want. We got through it though, and ended up with some wonderful images. He’s such a cutie!

It was great to work with this family! They are Italian and own a restaurant here in Frenchtown, NJ that is amazing and super authentic: Café Maria—you should check it out! It was also really nice to meet the grandparents, who had been visiting pre-COVID. (They just got to go back home in July! Crazy.)

Although this session wasn’t exactly what we first expected, we made it work—and it ended up being beautiful! Love our final images, and love the good memories we were able to create.
